Pros & Cons
Reasons to buy:
User Reviews
- Plastic caliper tips protect rim sidewalls.
- Solid and durable, stand is constructed entirely of steel.
- It’s easy to fix the stand as most parts are replaceable and readily available from Park Tool.
- Compatible with 29 inch wheels (including tires) as well as 650 or 27.5 in ch wheels.
- Design of the stand allows you to true on both sides simultaneously.
- Easy to use, even for first time wheel-truers.
- The industry standard for bike shops.
- A bit pricey, but will pay for itself in just a few years if you bike frequently or have a quiver of bikes to maintain, and will last a lifetime.
- Knobs are contoured and more comfortable to hold.
Expert Reviews
- Considering that the cost of a wheel-truing at a bike shop can range from $12-$50, this stand, although pricey, is worth it for the simple fact that it’ll last forever.
Reasons NOT to buy:
User Reviews
- Have to purchase a base (for stability) separately.
- The spring tension can get off centered on the feeler gauges and there’s no way to re center them, which means you might end up taking one of the feelers off for continued use if this happens.
- Some user adjustment might be needed as it’s common for the stand to not come perfectly calibrated from the factory.
- In the case that adjustment is needed, it would be nice if the stand came with a calibration tool, but it doesn’t.
- Need to purchase adapters for wheels with thru axles.
Expert Reviews
- Not meant as a dishing tool- you will still need a dishing gauge to make sure wheels are centered.
- Wonderful, essential tool for those building and truing wheels regularly. However, might be overkill for those users that only need to true a wheel occasionally.
Summary:
The Park Tool TS-2.2 Professional Wheel Truing Stand is simply the industry standard. The solid steel construction is durable and will last a lifetime and longer stand arms increase the amount of wheels that can be trued and the ease of doing so. Although the stand might require some calibration before use and isn’t immediately compatible with thru axle wheels, the versatility, durability, and truing accuracy outweigh any difficulties the setup might present.
